  • Pitt Awarded $3.5M to Improve Disparities in Insulin Access

    The University of PIttsburgh has been awarded an unprecedented $3.5M from The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust to study effectiveness of long-acting analogue insulin in children and young people with Type 1 diabetes. CP3 Faculty Affiliate Dr. Jing Luo will be the study PI. This work addresses disparities in insulin access for kids in resource-poor areas and will lead to improved insulin access globally.

  • Donohue Study Stresses Need to Change Opioid Prescribing

    Findings from a multi-disciplinary opioid prescriptions study led by Health Policy and Management Chair Dr. Julie Donohue point to need to change opioid-prescribing practices in key patient-care settings.

    Suda Receives Excellence in Government Award

    CP3 Associate Director Dr. Katie Suda was awarded the Excellence in Government Silver Award for Outstanding Contributions to Science (Medical). The award was bestowed by the Pittsburgh Federal Executive Board for Dr. Suda's work at the Pittsburgh VA and the VA's Center for Health Equity Research and Promotion.

Improving the Quality, Safety and Efficiency of Medication Use

While prescription drugs are used by 80% of Americans, the improper, unsafe use of medications leads to billions of dollars of avoidable healthcare costs. The goal of the CP3 research program is to improve patient and prescriber decision-making, and inform the regulation and coverage of pharmaceuticals.
