More Transparency Needed for Industry Payments to Teaching Hospitals

New research by CP3's Drs. Walid Gellad and Bernie Good, with Harvard's Dr. Tim Anderson, determined that 91% of teaching hospitals received industry payments totaling $832 million in 2018.  Since the Physician Payments Sunshine Act requires biomedical companies to report payments made to physicians and teaching hospitals to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), this work highlights the need for additional scrutiny and transparency regarding payments, especially surrounding potential conflicts of interest.
